Dexter Zabriskie is a saxophonist, composer, and educator based in Austin, TX that recently graduated from Texas State University in 2022 with a M.M. in Jazz Studies. In 2021, Dexter was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student in Jazz award at Texas State University and an Outstanding Performance Award at the Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival. In 2022, he had a composition selected to be featured as part of the New Music Masterclass Sessions at the 2022 International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers Symposium. While attending Texas State University, Dexter instructed eight music ensemble courses where he curated, prepared, and arranged all music literature rehearsed and performed in his classes. After graduating, Dexter instructed private lessons in saxophone and clarinet. As a soloist and ensemble member, Dexter has performed at the Elephant Room Jazz Club, Parker Jazz Club, Monk’s Jazz Club, the Denton Arts & Jazz Fest, the Texas Community Music Festival, the Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival, and opened for the Count Basie Orchestra at the Hill Country Jazz Festival. As a composer, he regularly writes for Austin Jazz Band and his own group called Modern Dexterity.
